Thursdays 11am-11:45am

A joyful first music experience where children, siblings, and parents will share in a music making program of rhythms, active movement games and singing. A nurturing environment where an energetic connection is drawn between music and imagination. Meet others and learn some fascinating music activities you can re-create at home.


SPECIAL GUEST TEACHER CLASS
Introduction to Guitar Improvisation

Taught by James Lee Smith
Open to 10 intermediate students

February 19- March 26

Thursdays 5pm-5:30pm $180

Designed for students with basic rhythm skills and the ability to strum chords and play songs, the Intro to Guitar Improv will prepare you for your first guitar solo! Learn music theory, scales, and other basic techniques that guitarists use to form solos. Taught by one of the area’s most in demand guitarists, James Lee Smith.


Beginner Mandolin

Students will prepare to play along with friends or participate in a jam by learning basic folk chords with an emphasis on rhythm and the bluegrass ‘chop.’ The goal of the class is to introduce music as a fun group activity, while preparing students for community jams and/or more advanced classes. Classes meet weekly and in person.

Students will prepare to play along with friends or participate in a jam by learning basic folk chords. We aim to strum along to songs on day one as we learn the fundamentals of rhythm. The goal of the class is to introduce music as a fun group activity, while preparing students for community jams and/or more advanced classes.

Beginner Bluegrass Banjo

Learn the basics of bluegrass banjo picking with a focus on the iconic ‘3-finger’ bluegrass style. Perfect for banjo beginners, students will learn how to read tab, how to play rhythm, and how to start picking at the bluegrass jam.

Middle Grades Guitar (Ages 11-14)

Hip Hop is Folk Music! Come learn the ‘basics’ of mouth percussion with one of our most beloved local musicians, Basik Lee.


Mandolin – From Bluegrass to Jazzy

Students will study ‘Limehouse Blues’, ‘Avalon’, and ‘My Window Faces the South’ during this course. The goal is to set students up with new chord voicings and melodies, allowing them to take a knowledge of the bluegrass repertoire into the world of ‘Swing’ and ‘Jazz’ .

Bluegrass Bass

Students will learn the basics of holding down a bluegrass beat with the double bass. The bass is a key instrument in all acoustic music – and in fact, most instruments rely on the bass player to lead them where they need to go. The goal is for students to come away with an understanding of basic bass theory, and the ability to play along with bluegrass music in several common keys.
